Alexander Miller – Lollipops & 99’s
£495.00
“This should be called Lollipops OR 99’s, because that was usually the choice offered on a day out – one or the other!
Choosing between the immediate, luxurious high of chocolate and ice cream, or the longer lasting pleasue of a lollipop was a difficult decision for a wee boy to make.
In this case, I’ve recalled the rare occasion where we might have been offered both, or did I just dream that as a kid?”

"I was heartbroken when I heard that the man who provided the soundtrack to my life had died. David Bowie was a musical genius and a truly interesting man who lived several lives during his time on the planet. The Thin White Duke was one of Bowie's personas I’m often asked how I find new ideas to paint, the truth is that ideas are always there. I never seem to have enough materials or time to realise them all! I guess Mr Bowie had the same problem, seamlessly moving from one style to another. " Boutique, Framed, Signed Limited Edition

"I love to be able to create scenes that are not only nice to look at, and hopefully thought of as well painted, but also conjure up in the mind's eye other more significant matters. This one makes me feel like our hopes and dreams are limitless. These scenes maybe of a memory that plays an important part in a moment in life, or convey a quality that the characters that reminds you of a type of personality you know or have known." "Although I grew up in the 1960s, the village where I was brought up felt more like the 1940's. Men went to work, few woman did; the majority of them running a household and bringing up kids. Grocery shopping was done, on food, on a daily basis. And I remember the determination and focus of these women. wrapped up in study wool coats and obligatory headscarves, moving from shop to shop" Boutique, Framed, Signed Limited Edition

“Bonnie Lad is an expression that means 'hello, how are you' in Newcastle upon Tyne - as in ‘Alreet Bonnie Lad'. You’ll hear it all the time if you go to a pub and watch all the old chaps greet friends as they come and go. In Scotland, it's more of a description for a good looking guy. While I usually try to make the characters appear as though they could be anyone, I kept seeing a resemblance to George Clooney’s under the bonnet of this one.” Boutique, Framed, Signed Limited Edition

"Growing up in the west of Scotland, with the weather coming off the Atlantic, the east coast of the country seemed a strange and foreign land, rarely visited. With glorious sunrises, a drier climate and buildings with crow stepped gables, the Fife fishing villages had more in common with the Low Countries and Scandinavia. It was only in my adulthood that I started to appreciate this lovely corner of the world; another piece in the mosaic of scenery, culture and people that makes Scotland a very special place."
