Alexander Miller – Thin White Duke

“I was heartbroken when I heard that the man who provided the soundtrack to my life had died. David Bowie was a musical genius and a truly interesting man who lived several lives during his time on the planet. The Thin White Duke was one of Bowie’s personas
I’m often asked how I find new ideas to paint, the truth is that ideas are always there. I never seem to have enough materials or time to realise them all! I guess Mr Bowie had the same problem, seamlessly moving from one style to another. ”

"Growing up in the west of Scotland, with the weather coming off the Atlantic, the east coast of the country seemed a strange and foreign land, rarely visited. With glorious sunrises, a drier climate and buildings with crow stepped gables, the Fife fishing villages had more in common with the Low Countries and Scandinavia. It was only in my adulthood that I started to appreciate this lovely corner of the world; another piece in the mosaic of scenery, culture and people that makes Scotland a very special place." "Although I grew up in the 1960s, the village where I was brought up felt more like the 1940's. Men went to work, few woman did; the majority of them running a household and bringing up kids. Grocery shopping was done, on food, on a daily basis. And I remember the determination and focus of these women. wrapped up in study wool coats and obligatory headscarves, moving from shop to shop" Boutique, Framed, Signed Limited Edition

"When I was creating work for my Youth and Young Manhood portfolio, I drew inspiration from old photographs of my Grandad a a young man. I was also influenced by a new TV series that a lot of people were talking about - so a number of my drawings and paintings also drew inspiration from the BBC series Peaky Blinders" Boutique, Framed, Signed Limited Edition

"My love of Scottish history has been influenced by various visual interpretations of my nation's story through paintings, films and TV. So it’s no surprise that the iconic Eilean Donan Castle has always fascinated me. The castle's unique location on the junction of three sea lochs close to the Isle of Skye allows it to be illuminated by misty dawns, Atlantic sunsets and brooding mountain storms. The light from the sky and from the surrounding water constantly change the texture and mood of its fortified walls and main keep. Truly everyone’s idea of a noble Highland stronghold!
